DO I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD AN APP
No app download is required because Healthstar uses a web application format so that anyone with a web browser can use Healthstar.
You can use the Healthstar app with any type of device (mobile, desktop, laptop, iPad, etc.) and the most popular operating systems (android, iOS, macOS, windows).

Anytime you want to log in simply use the "Sign In" link found on the menu screen of this website (www.healthstartech.com). For mobile users we recommend adding this website to your homepage so that you can quickly access the Sign In link found in the menu. SUBSCRIPTIONS & BILLING
IS HEALTH INSURANCE REQUIRED
Not at all! With Healthstar you do not need health insurance. You simply need to sign up for a paid Healthstar Plan and you'll get access to the app which includes basic lab and biometric testing at no extra charge. In addition you'll have access to deeply discounted testing services when needed. We believe all people should have access to healthcare, which will only be possible when healthcare becomes affordable and convenient. WHY IS HEALTHSTAR ONLY IN CALIFORNIA
We launched our service in mid-2017 in the heart of Silicon Beach. Although we are currently available only in California we have plans to be nationwide very soon. We are are looking for the next innovative city to launch our service - tell us where we should go next!
CAN I BUY A PLAN FOR A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER
Absolutely! If you think Healthstar would benefit a friend or family member you can purchase a Healthstar Plan for them, just let us know who the Plan is for by contacting us. Although we can not force anyone to sign up to use Healthstar, we will do our best to recruit and encourage your friend or family member to take advantage of the Healthstar service.
If the person for whom the gift subscription was purchased has not signed up to use the app after 30 days (from the purchase date) we will cancel the subscription and refund that first month's payment or the full amount if an annual membership was purchased.
HOW DO I CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION
Although we will be sad to see you go, we think it should be easy for you to cancel your Healthstar subscription at any time for any reason. To cancel your account simply fill out and submit the cancel subscription form found here (before canceling please read the Cancelation and Refund Policy details based on plan type).
Once you have canceled your subscription you will still have access to any prior lab data and prior recommendations, but once your plan has been canceled you will no longer have access to the services included with your plan which may have included: Basic Lab and Biometric Testing included with a subscription, comprehensive Health Screenings included with a subscription, discounted Healthstar Virtual Clinic visits, discounted lab testing, and discounted biometric testing. You can always reactivate your account at anytime to start enjoying these great benefits again.
HOW OFTEN WILL I GET RECOMMENDATIONS
The frequency of recommendations will depend on your current health status. Recommendations will be sent at least once a week, but may be as frequent as every day. Recommendations are also affected by the type and amount of data that is uploaded into the Healthstar application.
Whenever a new recommendation is ready for viewing you will receive an email notification, however you will need to Sign In to the Healthstar application to view the contents of the recommendation.
HOW DO I UPLOAD OUTSIDE OR OLD HEALTH DATA
A unique feature of the Healthstar app is that it allows you to upload outside health data to improve the precision of Healthstar's recommendations. While Healthstar can provide access to lab, biometric, and other important health data, some users already have access to results from recent testing and would like to use the Healthstar app to get meaningful recommendations for health improvement.
In order for Healthstar to process outside health data, testing must have been completed within the past 4 months. At this time, it is not recommended that any health data other than what is listed below be uploaded into Healthstar;
Ideal type of data that should be uploaded:
- Lipid Panel (Total Cholesterol, LDL Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, Triglycerides)
- Hemoglobin A1c
- Biometrics (height, weight, waist circumference, resting heart rate, blood pressure)
- Body Fat percentage
Additional Data that can be uploaded and used by Healthstar:
- Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
- Complete Blood Count with differential

WHAT IS THE HEALTHSTAR FUND
The Healthstar Fund is a unique feature of the app that allows you to crowdfund any of your short-term fitness goals so you can earn money and prizes. You can use the feature as way for your friends and family to show their support for you while you make progress towards your fitness goals. Simply invite your friends to track your progress in the app and get them to donate towards your goal. When you achieve your short-term goals we'll pay you the money and/or prizes your friends donated to your Healthstar Fund. It's that simple! You can get paid every 6 to 12 weeks. The Fund is also used by the Healthstar team to give away prizes and discounts on great fitness and health gear, The Fund is paid out using PayPal.
PRIVACY & SECURITY
IS MY HEALTH INFORMATION PROTECTED
Yes! We take the security and privacy of your protected health information (PHI) very seriously. We adhere to the same guidelines that govern physicians and hospital systems, including adhering to the privacy and security rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Your data is always encrypted - during transit and in storage.
Although we do our best to protect your sensitive health data, it is imperative that all users of Healthstar do their part to protect the privacy of their sensitive data. Using Healthstar should be approached in the same manner that is typically used to access sensitive financial information (e.g. logging out of banking websites and mobile banking apps when not in use, not sharing passwords, etc.)
Here are some tips and general rules to follow when using Healthstar:
- Logging out when you are not using the app. There is an automatic logout feature with Healthstar, but we highly recommend logging out when you're done using Healthstar.
- Setting up password protection for access to your laptop, desktop, iPad, tablet, mobile device or any other device you use to access the Healthstar application.
- Do not share your login information or passwords with anyone else

DO YOU SELL OR USE MY HEALTH DATA FOR ANY OUTSIDE ORGANIZATIONS
We take the privacy and security of your data very seriously. We do not sell, use, repackage, or anonymize our members data for any outside organizations. We also do not participate in any research studies using our members data. Unlike other digital health companies we have set up our business model so that we will never have to sell your data to any outside organizations to sustain the business.
CAN MY FRIENDS ON HEALTHSTAR SEE MY HEALTH INFORMATION
A unique feature of the Healthstar app is the ability to crowdfund your fitness goals with the Healthstar Fund. When you invite your friends to check on your progress and contribute to your Healthstar Fund they will be able to see certain information that may be considered health information which may include the following:
- Current Weight
- Body Mass Index and classification (underweight, normal weight, overweight, obese, etc.)
- Lean Body Mass
- Body Fat Percentage
- Trends in fitness data over time
- Goal Targets for your BMI, lean body mass, or body fat percentage.
If you find that the information discussed above is too private to share we recommend that you DO NOT invite Friends while using the Healthstar app.
WHERE DO LAB AND BIOMETRIC TESTING TAKE PLACE
After you receive your lab order form in the Healthstar app you simply have to show up at one of the service centers to get tested. The service centers will need to see an ID to confirm your name and date of birth, but no insurance card, copay, or any other form of payment for lab testing will be required.
Your results are automatically uploaded into the Healthstar App and are generally available for review within 24 hours of testing.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY LAB RESULTS COME BACK AS ABNORMAL OR WITH CRITICAL RESULTS
You will be notified via the Healthstar App of all abnormal lab and biometric results. Any abnormal results and what they mean are explained in the Detailed Health Report you will receive with your lab results. In addition, all abnormal lab results and biometric results are reviewed by our medical team which include licensed physicians.
When it is deemed appropriate you will be contacted (via email) to set up a time to speak with our support team by phone to discuss your results and any follow up you may need in person with a primary care physician or specialist.
For some abnormal lab results you will be notified using the Healthstar App only. For example: mildly elevated total cholesterol levels, Hemoglobin A1c level that may indicate prediabetes, or blood pressure results that are in the prehypertension range. Many of these results can be optimized by first using lifestyle interventions which the Healthstar App was created to do.
Critical Results Policy
If any of your lab results are deemed critical and need to be addressed immediately you will be contacted using both your profile phone number and your email address within 24 hours of the results becoming available. In addition, you will be directed by our support team to next level of care including follow up with a primary care doctor, an urgent care center, or a hospital emergency room.
In the rare instance of critical biometric results, such as a very high blood pressure reading or a very high heart rate, you will be directed by the staff at the patient service centers of Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp to be evaluated immediately in the emergency room (ER) which may include transport to the ER by paramedics.
CAN THE HEALTHSTAR APP TAKE THE PLACE OF MY DOCTOR
No, the Healthstar app is not intended to replace (or substitute for) medical advice or evaluation by a physician. However, we seek to empower you with access to your health data and a basic understanding of what your data means. Most importantly the Healthstar app serves to provide you with highly personalized lifestyle recommendations to optimize the 7 categories required to achieve ideal cardiovascular health* as listed below:
- optimal cholesterol levels.
- optimal blood glucose
- optimal blood pressure and resting heart rate
- healthy body weight and ideal body fat percentage
- exercise and overall fitness level, including peak athletic performance
- optimal nutrition and healthy eating habits
- tobacco use and exposure
For Healthstar App customers who would like to speak with a physician or are in need of telemedicine services they can use the Healthstar Virtual Clinic that can be directly accessed via the Healthstar App. If you have any additional questions related to what can and cannot be covered by the Healthstar app and the Healthstar Virtual clinic please contact us.
HEALTHSTAR VIRTUAL CLINIC
HOW IS THE VIRTUAL CLINIC RELATED TO THE HEALTHSTAR APP
The Healthstar Virtual Clinic is a telehealth service that is separate from the Healthstar application. You do not need to be a member of Healthstar to use the Virtual Clinic, however, Healthstar members with an active subscription plan are eligible for discounted Virtual Clinic visits and services. See pricing guide for details.
I CANNOT FIND AN AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT
The Healthstar Virtual Clinic is a service which may at times have limited availability. We do our best to ensure that you can schedule an appointment within 24 hours.
Use the Contact Us form to tell us which date and time you could not schedule an appointment.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS MY APPOINTMENT
If you miss your appointment there will be a missed appointment fee, which is equal to the price of your appointment type. To avoid a missed appointment fee, you must cancel your appointment at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time. If there are extenuating circumstances for why you needed to cancel or miss your appointment please contact us to let us know the reason. We will do our best to determine if a refund is applicable for your particular situation.

CAN HEALTHSTAR OR A HEALTHSTAR DOCTOR BE MY PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER.
No. Although the Healthstar Doctors who provide care through the Virtual Clinic can provided many of the same services as a Primary Care Physician, the Healthstar Virtual Clinic should not be used as a replacement (or substitute) for a Primary Care Doctor.
